Forest Falls is reached by turning east off State Route 38 onto Valley of the Falls Road, which climbs into Mill Creek Canyon. State Route 38 is the community's lifeline to the San Bernardino Valley, descending past Mountain Home Village and Angelus Oaks toward the city of San Bernardino and the broader Inland Empire. Because the community sits in a steep canyon, mountain driving conditions—including winter snow and chain requirements—are a routine part of travel. Residents generally rely on private vehicles, with the nearest full-scale services and freeway connections located down the hill in the San Bernardino Valley.

Forest Falls is a recreation gateway to the San Gorgonio Wilderness and the Sand to Snow National Monument. Big Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in Southern California, draws hikers up Valley of the Falls Road, while the Vivian Creek Trail—the original route to the San Gorgonio Wilderness and its 11,000-foot peaks—begins nearby. The Momyer Trailhead adds further backcountry access.
